July 14, 2004 -- At its July 10th meeting, the Florida Airboat Association endorsed personal injury medical insurance that will provide coverage for insured persons who are injured in most boating and water sport related accidents, including airboat accidents.

A $25 annual premium will provide $15,000 in secondary accidental injury/medical insurance and $15,000 in emergency medi-vac insurance. A typical helicopter airlift of a critically injured person, common in airboat accidents, can cost between $9,000 and $12,000.

Through negotiation with the Florida Airboat Association, Diver's Security Insurance/Security National Life Insurance Company, Salt Lake City,
Utah, has agreed to include "airboating" and "airboaters" in its coverage.

It is the position of the Florida Airboat Association that no airboater stricken ill or injured, while enjoying the sport of airboating, be denied the rapid intervention of medical care and/or emergency transportation to an appropriate medical facility due to the concern for expense. To that end, the Florida Airboat Association will continue to strive to make available affordable accidental medical and emergency medi-vac insurance coverage to the airboating community.
